Have you ever heard about mental strength or mental toughness or mental power?
Is it important for referees and assistant referees to have mental strength to cope with big decisions?

well, I think referees need to have the ability to focus under pressure, that’s one of the most important characterstics for mental toughness to become a top referee or assistant referee.

The main aims are to identify strategies that help in making big decisions correctly and to explore the approaches to adopt when dealing with challenging match situations.

The main big decisions discuse are:
.Red cards (DOGSO, violent conduct, serious foul play, spitting, using offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures, second caution)

  • Penalties
  • Critical offside judgements
  • Disputed goals
  • Extraordinary incidents including
    postponements, abandonments etc.
